Elmira Brockenborough was two years old when she died from scarlet fever on September 24, 1874. She was the first African American recorded to have been buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Elmira was the granddaughter of Alexander S. Brockenborough, an African American who was a tailor on most census records found to date. His wife, Margaret is listed as a native of Scotland.
Alexander and Margaret had four sons, Alexander, James, William and Silas. It is not know which of these men was Elmira's father.
