Walter "Jack" Givens was considered one of the area's pioneering physical therapists. He completed his degree in physical education in 1949 at the University at Buffalo. He received his certificate in physical therapy from New York University in 1951 and taught at UB's Chronic Disease Institute before beginning a 25 year career at Buffalo General Hospital. He was a native of Danville, Virginia and he attended Tuskegee Institute before he entered the United States Army serving in Germany and France during WWII.
Mr. Givens died on June 10, 1998 at the age of 76. He is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
