Essie X McQuiller

She was born in MS. She was accomplished in the area of Religion. She later died on 11-4-1962.

A native of Mississippi, Mrs. McQuiller and her husband William were married 52 years and the parents of 9 children. Mr. McQuiller was born on September 26, 1888. Mrs. McQuiller was born circa 1893. The family lived in Port Huron, Michigan before relocating to Lackawanna, New York.


In 1953, Bobby McQuiller, Mrs. McQuiller's son brought the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Mohammad to Lackawanna. Mrs. McQuiller and other members of the family converted to Islam in 1954. They were the first family in Lackawanna to convert to the faith. Mrs. McQuiller's daughter, Ora -Lee Khalid Lewis- Delgado is an Uncrowned Queen. The family became instrumental in bringing others to the faith. Minister Malcolm X visited the area because of the work that the McQuiller family was doing on the behalf of the Nation.


A study group that was started in Lackawanna was eventually moved to Buffalo to the home of Mrs. Lewis-Delgado by Minister Malcolm X. Minister Malcom visited the study group in 1956. In 1957 the group had grown so that it was determined to establish a Mosque. Mosque #23 was founded in 1957 under the leadership of Minister Robert J. X. Williams. Mrs. McQuiller was buried from Mohammad's Mosque of Islam #23 in Buffalo, New York.
