M. Jean Hill

M. Jean Hill was a native of Newark, New Jersey. She was the daughter of P. Calvin and Earnestine Hill and had three siblings. She grew up in Ellaville, Georgia.

Prior to joining M&T, Ms. Hill was a news anchor at the ABC television affiliate, Channel 7, in Buffalo. She began a twelve-year stint with WKBW, as a weekend anchor in October 1889. She took a position with the bank as a vice president of Corporate Communications at M&T Bank, headquartered in Buffalo, NY. Later she worked for the Bank's Corporate Compliance division as a member of the Sales Practice Compliance team supporting the organizations' Wealth and Institutions Services Division.

Before making Buffalo her home, Ms. Hill was an international correspondent for "Beyond Tomorrow", a science magazine program, produced in Sydney, Australia and Los Angeles, California for the FOX television network. That assignment came after working for network affiliate television stations in Georgia and South Carolina. These appointments led to numerous awards in the field of journalism.

Although a broadcast and print journalist by trade, Ms. Hill holds an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo, as well as a master's degree from The Ohio State University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia, both in the field of journalism. Ms. Hill was a Kiplinger Fellow and the 2003 recipient of the Urban Financial Services Coalition's Herbert W. Whiteman, Jr. National Scholarship. Ms. Hill taught journalism at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and as an adjunct professor she taught broadcast copy writing at Buffalo State College and feature writing at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.

In addition to her primary occupation as a communications professional at M&T Bank, Ms. Hill wrote freelance articles and contributed reports for ESPN and Empire Sports Network as well as worked on special projects for Daybreak TV Productions and WNED-TV. She routinely served on governing boards and committees of non-for-profit organizations that support the Buffalo community.

Ms. Hill was an avid international traveler, with a passionate interest in foreign culture and was a member of the French Alliance of Buffalo. In addition, Ms. Hill was a member of the Buffalo Prep Board of Directors and rendered her services to numerous public and private organizations that support the Buffalo/Niagara region. In 1991, she received an intercultural relations award from the Buffalo Public schools for her work achieving peace, harmony and understanding. In 2002, she was elected to the New Directions Youth & Family Services Trustee Board. She was one of 23 Western New Yorkers honored at the 2005 Black Achievers in Industry awards dinner. She was an active member of Girl Friends, Inc., an organization founded in 1927, and one of the leading women's African American philanthropic societies in the United States.
